Becoming Involved

Being a fully engaged Bailey Scholar is extremely important to enhance your own personal experience, but to also influence and add to the learning and work of the whole.  Below is information on how you may become a fully engaged Bailey Scholar.  All organizations, events, and opportunities are open to undergraduates, graduate fellows, faculty, staff, and Bailey supporters.  We will continue to add to this as opportunities arise and meetings are set from semester to semester!

Join an Organization

Bailey Community Council (BCC)

This organization works collaboratively with the Senior and Student Directors to make decisions involving programming, leadership, and governance.  It meets every Monday at 6 pm in 65 Agriculture Hall.  The Spring 2008 convener is Kate Law, please contact her if you would like to get involved.

Curriculum Connections Team  (CCT)

This organization works collaboratively with the Senior and Student Directors to make decisions involving the curriculum of the Bailey Scholars Program.  This is similar to a department curriculum committee.  We will be establishing meeting times and a convener shortly for Spring 2008.

Bailey Outreach Committee (BOC)

This organization identifies and welcomes new scholars into the Bailey Scholars Community, planning and carrying out events for the community and new scholars.  Meetings for this group for Spring 2008 will be set shortly.  The convener for Spring 2007 is Brett Kopf, please contact him to become involved.

Bailey's Service Organization (BSO)

This organization is a registered student organization (RSO) through the department of Student Life, and is housed in the Bailey Scholars Program.  It is open to all students at Michigan State University, even if they are not students in the Bailey Scholars Program.  It is dedicated to finding and crafting service opportunities that build community - not just the Bailey community but the larger communities Bailey is connected with (MSU, East Lansing, and beyond).  Meeting times will be set soon for Spring 2008.  The advisor for this organization is Diane Doberneck, please contact her to become involved.

Bailey Buddy Program

This program helps introduce new scholars into the Bailey Scholars Program.  Current Bailey Scholars are matched with new Bailey Scholars, and the seasoned scholars mentor the new scholars.  Plese contact Dustin Petty, our Student Director, if you would like to be involved in this program.

Sharing

Part of the program's expectation is that we each share our learning with the community to enable the learning of the whole.  You may do this through writing an article for the Bailey Dailey, hosting a Wednesday Lunch, communicating with the community via the ListServs, adding items to the Community Calendar, or organizing your own event.
