The Bailey Scholars Program understands the need to prepare its students, faculty and staff for being responsible citizens of the world. By developing programs and creating partnerships with other organizations, we have created a number of opportunities to connect our work with the global community, domestically and internationally. Please explore some of the exciting opportunities we have to offer.

The Bailey Scholars Program offers two Study Abroads to Ireland. Both operate on a community engagement model, but have different foci. The study abroad to County Mayo, Ireland focuses on rural community development, and the study abroad to County Monaghan, Ireland focuses on borderland conflict and regeneration in Ireland. Please visit their individual pages below.

We are happy to collaborative with the TUA/MSU partnership. This effort provides students the ability to travel to the International Student Summit on Food, Agriculture, and Environment in Tokyo, Japan each year to present on a selected theme and collaborate with students from over 20 different countries.
We also offer the opportunity to engage in a special program to Joetsu, Japan to learn about Japanese Organic Agriculture. Students spend 2 weeks in August of each year working on an organic farm and selling produce at market.

We partner with MSU's IVAC to provide 2 service learning experiences for Bailey Scholars and MSU students to participate in. One trip heads to San Ignacio, Belize where students learn about the Mayan cultural heritage of the surrounding area and assist in projects with a local school during the winter break. Another trip heads to Montreal, Canada where students learn about homelessness and the hungry while serving the area at a local shelter.

The Bailey Scholars Program offers an Alternative Spring Break exclusive to its students. We have also partnered with MSU Alternative Spring Break in previous years to learn about and serve the homeless population in Washington, D.C.

Bailey's Service Organization offers local opportunities for students to engage in a variety of service learning opportunities in the Greater Lansing Areas. They also will be hosting 4 service learning events for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources for 2009-2010 incoming students.
If you would like to be involved in these experiences, please contact us.
